Biography

Background

Education

Hey y'all!

I am Alicia Wimsatt,

and I am an LPC Associate supervised by Shawna Storey-Lovin, LPC-S. I am the Owner of Couch Talk Counseling and Coaching.

Aside from the fancy titles, I am a fellow Wise-Countian, boy mom x 2, wife, an avid iced coffee fanatic, and a lover of all things that involve mental health.

In my free time, you can find me talking too much, thanking Jesus, planning my next vacation (it is self-care after all right?!?!), practicing what I preach (you know, trying to use all those coping skills I harp on), being “one of those moms” at a local ball game, and trying new recipes!

I hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University where I graduated with distinction.

I completed my Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Bachelors Degree in Child Learning and Development at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Aside from personal and lived experience with various aspects of mental health, I have been working in the world of mental health since 2010 having initially spent 9 years working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Autism, ADHD and their families/foster care providers with behavior modification, intervention, advocacy, and case management.

Through my personal experience and my 9 years of working with the neurodivergent population, neurodivergence and neurodivergence advocacy became a passion of mine. My background is not limited to neurodivergence however, as I have served as a local mental health crisis worker, worked with pervasive mental illness and within an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting, and even in the criminal justice system.

In addition, along with my own advocacy efforts towards neurodivergence, I have also provided Special Education Counseling in a school setting, been a counselor in a group practice, and now my road takes me to providing counseling to those in my local, rural, community. Additionally, I have served as a group leader for grief process groups for kiddos.

My Clinical Approach

One thing for sure is, I do not operate on a “textbook” approach. I pride myself on being flexible, compassionate, unique, and down to earth while in session with my clients. I remain true to who I am and encourage you to do the same. I tend to take a casual, direct, and comfy approach. By comfy, I mean come as you are and get comfortable on the couch and let’s hash this stuff out!

You won’t find me in fancy business clothes, I don’t have a “traditional counseling office”, and don’t worry if an occasional curse word finds its way into session, you will not be judged! What I do offer is a non-judgmental zone, a safe space, a place where you are appreciated, a place where you can be YOU, a bright place to bring some color into your life, and a place where I hope you leave feeling empowered!

While I do typically prepare for sessions and have a “game plan” of how I would like to help you meet your goals, you are the driver in this journey, and we will stop at whatever stop sign we need to. You just halt those brakes as you see fit. My approach involves being observant, being comfortable, and being your biggest cheerleader in tackling those challenges and goals because YOU’VE TOTALLY GOT THIS! Now, go do the dang thing!

Hey, that’s me! As a LPC Associate, I am supervised by Shawna Storey-Lovin, LPC-S.
As the parent/guardian of your minor, I rely heavily on your input and feedback related to your child. The first session is a sit down with you to discuss your concerns and desires for your child. After that, it’s time to get to work and most of my time will be spent directly working with your child independently. However, throughout your child’s treatment, we will engage in periodic parent training and/or consultation sessions to form a partnership and provide the best treatment for your child.
